Pahalgam may be bracing for a profound effect on its economy, ecology, opportunities, and tourism with talk of a road between Pahalgam and Ladakh gaining ground, yet again. This time, its in the form of an actual proposal to the Central Government.
To provide an alternative road between Kashmir and Ladakh, the Jammu and Kashmir government today said it has submitted a proposal to the Centre for construction of 106-km-long Kargil-Pahalgam road. “A proposal has been submitted to defence ministry by PWD(R&B) department for construction of a 106-km-long road connecting Panikhar in Kargil and Pahalgam in Kashmir under Border Road Development Programme (BRDP),” JK finance minister Abdul Rahim Rather told the state Assembly in reply to PDP member Mansoor Ahmed’s query. “This road shall provide an alternative road between Kashmir and Ladakh. The project cost is about Rs 300 crore,” he said in a PTI report dated Mar 12.
The total straight line distance between Pahalgam and Kargil is 79 KM (kilometers) and 513.89 meters. The mile based measurement distance is 49.4 miles. Again, this is a straight line distance.
Driving Distance Between Pahalgam and Kargil is 294 Km or 182 Miles. The proposed road will make it 106 km long.
