Authorities after the incident have made announcements from the loudspeakers appealing the people of the area not to venture out in the evening. Police has registered case into the incident and started investigations.
Sources said that the two leopards fled from the mini-zoo Pahalgam after the wire laid around the zoo was cut during the night. “The channeling that is laid around the zoo had been cut with some sharp edged weapon from two sides paving the way for the leopards to come out of the zoo,” said an official. However, sources smell the hand of officials into the incident.
“The channel fencing was cut from the sides where the leopard had been kept which indicates that some mischief has been done by the employees,” said the sources.

Confirming the incident wild life warden south Kashmir Mohammad Sadiq Mir blamed “miscreants” for the mischief.
“Two leopards fled from the zoo only after some miscreants who are hell bent on demolishing the image of the department under a well planned conspiracy cut the fencing of the zoo,” he said.
However, he claimed that they have managed to capture one leopard while one is yet to be captured.
“To avoid any human damage we have asked the people of the area not to venture out in the evening,” he said adding, “The efforts are on to capture another leopard.”
Police has registered a case into the matter and started investigations.
“We have lodged an FIR into the matter and initiated investigations,” SHO Pahalgam Tariq Ahmad Tak told Kashmir Times.
“We have called many officials of the department for questioning and the investigation is on,” he said.
